Library
The library
houses over 15,000 books with several specialist collections including:
- Spanish Civil War
- WEA Archive
- Local History
- Women's Studies
- Trade Unions
- Adult Education
It
also includes good collections on History, Art, Politics
and Economics. The Literature section includes the complete
works of Arnold Bennett, The Brontes' and D H Lawrence as
well as a substantial number of novels, poetry section,
letters and literary criticism.
It is open to
anyone staying at the College
It is available for research purposes and private
study, and B&B accommodation can be provided in the week
It is a private
library and unfortunately books are not available for loan
Anyone wishing to
use the library must ring and book in advance
The library has been described as being
of national importance due to some of our archive
material not being available elsewhere. It
is currently undergoing development to be preserved.
We are currently bidding for funding and any support, moral
or otherwise would be greatly appreciated.
We would also appreciate any help that
people can offer. There are many books that need sorting
and cataloguing and we are actively seeking volunteers to
help with these tasks. If you think you can help then please
email us via our contact us
page.
There is shortly to be an IT suite situated in the library,
with Internet access for the use of both students and staff.
This room will be available to use on an individual basis
or for group booking. Completion is expected September 2005.
Library Database
We are currently working on a catalogue of our
books, and when this is completed it will be available
to search through and find the books you are looking for
using this site.
As we have many books, this database may not be ready
for a while, but we will keep you notified of its
progress through our news page
in the home section
