Primary Literacy: Describing Pictures   Various pictures (animals and people) with space around the pictures to write adjectives. Ideal for using your pen on the board and 'writing over' a website. If you want to keep the results, take a snapshot/screenshot into your flipchart/notebook file. Provided by North East Lincs Lighthouse for Learning.

Electronic Big Books suitable for either KS1 or 2 (fiction and non-fiction)

Secondary English: Poems of the First World War  This site is a project which was based around the poem: Dulce et Decorum Est (Owen). When you visit the site, click on 'View the Case Study'. This launches a pop-up window. The text size is quite small, so pupils may want their own copies to refer to. Note that you can 'right click' on the pop-up window and then select 'Zoom in'. This will display the text much larger, but it will need to be moved around as the poem is read.  However, the poem is then read with stunning sound effects. Be aware that the words spoken do not exactly match the printed text. Produced by The Learning Centre (Belshill Academy)

BFI Screen Online website for film clips  You need to register first and access is limited to schools, colleges and libraries.  http://www.screenonline.org.uk/

www.arkive.org   Images of life on Earth (stills and video).

www.open-video.org   The Open Video Project - a shared digital video collection.

www.classicreader.com   A site for English teachers, with literally hundreds of texts, all available to search and display on screen. A couple of tips. Display the screen in 'printer friendly' format as this removes all the advertising. Alternatively, copy and paste the text into another piece of software, such as ACTIVstudio, SMART notebook or Textease. This would remove the need to scroll as a small amount of text could be displayed and annotated on each page.

Magnetic Poetry   Drag and drop words on screen. You can press shift and click on the screen to add extra words as students come up with ideas to develop the poem. (http://home.freeuk.net/elloughton13/scramble2.htm)

www.collectbritain.co.uk   England's regional dialects and accents preserved
